Learn to Row this year! Our 2010 Session I class begins June 12th and meets Saturday and Sunday mornings from 7am to 9am for three consecutive weekends. Enjoy the early morning beauty of Lake Wequaquet while learning the basics of the fast growing, total-body-workout sport. Sign up and reserve your spot now! Our 2010 Session II class begins June 15th and meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6am to 8am for three weeks. Sign up for both sessions and come four days a week!
Program Description: Partipants will receive 12 hours of instruction per session with a qualified coach. Classes will be hands-on, sequenced, and cummulative. This allows new rowers to learn the basics during the late spring, early summer so new rowers can continue to row during the BEST months of the year. Classes may be affected by weather, wind, and waves, as well as other watercraft in area.
Participants: The Learn-to-Row is open to all women; no experience necessary. Our participants have ranged in age from mid-20s to late 60s, with the majority falling in the 35 to 45 age range, and many in their 50s and 60s...one of our most avid rowers learned in her early 60s!
Prerequisites: A fun attitude and a level of comfort in and on the water.
Program Features: Barnstable Rowing, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) volunteer, non-profit educational organization that has provided rowing instruction to women since 1988. Founded in 1987, Barnstable Rowing also offers instruction and competitive opportunities for youth and juniors.
Upon completion of the Learn-to-Row program, participants may become members of the Masters Program, our adult program. Membership entitles rowers to use the rowing equipment owned by Barnstable Rowing. Masters rowers organize their practices using Barnstable Rowing's eight- or four-oared shells. We also have doubles and singles that are available upon satisfactory completion of a paid sculling lesson and coach's approval.
Barnstable Rowing offers competitive participants opportunities to compete in races during the spring, summer, and fall; however, some members particpate primarily for the recreation and exercise and to enjoy the beauty of rowing on Lake Wequaquet. Whether you are interested in competition or recreation, it is essential to learn the basics of rowing and to practice as much as possible. This will greatly enhance your enjoyment of the sport, not only this years but for many years to come. |
