LEARN-TO-ROW Barnstable Rowing, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) volunteer, non-profit educational organization that has provided rowing instruction to women since 1988. Founded in 1987, Barnstable Rowing also offers instruction and competitive opportunities for youth and juniors. Participants will receive 16 hours of instruction with a qualified coach Saturday and Sunday mornings...PLUS the opportunity to practice between lessons. This schedule allows new rowers to learn the basics of this fast growing, total-body workout sport during June and then row during the BEST months of the year. This is the ONLY opportunity this year to learn to row with Barnstable Rowing. The Learn-to-Row is open to all women; no experience necessary, although knowing how to swim is a requirement. Upon completion of the Learn-to-Row program, participants become members of the Masters Program, the adult program offered through Barnstable Rowing, Inc. Membership entitles rowers to use the rowing equipment owned by Barnstable Rowing. Masters rowers organized their own practices using Barnstable Rowing’s eight– or four-oared shells, pairs, doubles, or singles. Barnstable Rowing also owns launches (motor boats for instruction, coaching and safety). Barnstable Rowing offers competitive participants opportunities to compete in races during the spring, summer and fall; however, some members participate primarily for the recreation and exercise and to enjoy the beauty of rowing on Lake Wequaquet. Whether you are interest more in competition or recreation, it is essential to learn the basics of rowing and to practice as much as possible. This will greatly enhance your enjoyment of the sport, not only during this year but for many years to come.
